For those interested in the fundamentals of home food preservation, Penn State Extension is offering a webinar, “Living on a Few Acres: Home Food Preservation,” from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 14.
This session is designed for the beginning producer or homesteader and for those looking to become more self-sufficient by preserving their own food.
This event will cover the basic information needed to preserve foods at home. Attendees can learn about food preservation methods such as canning, freezing and drying, which enable them to enjoy seasonal foods throughout the year.
While these home food preservation methods have existed for centuries, the science behind these practices has advanced in recent years. During this webinar, participants can learn the scientific reasoning behind today’s recommended methods for home food preservation while instructors debunk food preservation myths and unsafe practices.
The “Living on a Few Acres” webinar series covers basic information on how to get started and provides resources with more advanced information for participants to continue pursuing goals or hobbies. Topics have included beekeeping, syrup making, vegetable gardening, tree and small fruit production, home food preservation, backyard greenhouses, and other homesteading topics.
Participants must register by 6 p.m. May 14 to receive the link to access the live webinar. A small registration fee accompanies the event. Registrants also will receive access to the webinar recording.
