Alexander H. MacDonald
1926-2026
Alexander H. MacDonald, age 99, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va. passed away on February 25th, 2026 surrounded by his family in the VA Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born on July 1st, 1926 in Greenwich, Conn., he was the son of Elizabeth Seitz and Harry E. MacDonald.
He grew up during a time that shaped a generation, and as a young man he proudly served his country as a veteran of World War II. His service reflected the courage, sacrifice, and commitment that defined so much of his life.
After returning home, Alex built a life centered around family, hard work, and community.
Alex was known for being witty, determined, kind, humorous, and a storyteller.
Throughout his life he worked as an Electrical Engineer and a Radio Operator and was proud to be a part of the success of designing the 911 center in Berkeley Springs, W.Va. He enjoyed being a volunteer Fire Fighter well into his 90s at the South Morgan Fire Department and loved sharing stories from his life and experiences.
Above all, he was a proud father and grandfather. Nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his family and watching the next generation grow.
He is survived by his daughter Caroline Hendry-MacDonald and her husband William Langehennig and Grandson Gavin W. Boyce.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes B. MacDonald.
A Celebration of Life will be held at South Morgan Fire Department in Berkeley Springs, W.Va. on March 21 from 11-3 p.m.
The family asks that donations in lieu of flowers be made to the South Morgan Fire Department.
Alex will be remembered for his service to his country, his devotion to his family, and the strength of character that guided him throughout his life.
