Joan Leona Snyder
1946-2026
Joan Leona Mellott Snyder, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at the age of 79 at Doey’s House in Hagerstown, Md.
She was born in Needmore, Pa., on July 31, 1946 to the late Grant and Della Swope Mellott and graduated in 1964 from Southern Fulton High School in Warfordsburg, Pa.
Her past employment was at Waring, Waynesboro Knitting Co. and London Fog.
She will be remembered for her love of family, church, hummingbirds, sitting on the patio watching nature and listening to southern gospel music.
She was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Church-Brethren in Needmore, Pa.
She and her husband, Donald Snyder were married on October 3, 1964 and enjoyed 61 years of marriage.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her 3 children, Vonda Snyder Pollock and her husband Frederick of Waynesboro, Pa., Curtis Snyder and his wife Michelle of Ocean View, Del. and Michael Snyder of Needmore, Pa. She also has had 6 grandchildren, Kayla (Ryan) Unger, Casey (Michael) LaDuca, Janey (Jason) Baughman, Caitlyn Pollock, Cheyenne Snyder and Wyatt Snyder and 3 great grandchildren, Levi Unger, Lilah Unger and Theodore Baughman. She is also survived by her 3 sisters, Mary Jane Wilson, Helen and her husband Donald Golden; Marleen Golden and her husband, Thomas; and one brother Leon and his wife Priscilla; as well as an extended host of family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Walter Mellott, in-laws, Melvin and Mary Snyder, brother in -laws, Richard Wilson and Melvin “Junior” Snyder and sister in-law, Mary “Sis” and her husband Jack Saunderland.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026 with visitation from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and service at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Ridge Church-Brethren, 2507 Pleasant Ridge Rd., Needmore, Pa. 17238.
