Micheria Jo Merica
1948-2026
Micheria Jo Merica, age 77, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va. passed away on Friday, January 16, 2026 at her home.
Born September 23, 1948 in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., she was the daughter of Joseph Lott and Mildred Marie Michael Shambaugh.
She was a member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Berkeley Springs High School.
She and her husband owned and operated Unger’s General Store for 41 years. Micheria Jo showed cattle with her husband and participated in the Morgan County 4-H Fair showing apples and tomatoes which they later shared with the community. She and her husband, Richard were best known for growing dahlias which they shared with local fire halls and churches designed in a red solo cup. She enjoyed going to quilting shows with her mother, flower gardening, reading, and watching TV game shows, especially Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.
Micheria was survived by her only child (daughter Michelle Merrill), son-in-law, two grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was also survived by several nieces and nephews and many cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Henry Merica in 2019.
Funeral services were conducted on Friday, January 23, 2026 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. with Pastor Phil Brumback officiating. Interment was in Greenwood Grove Cemetery, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
