1939-2026
Barbara Marie Michael, age 86, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., passed away peacefully in her sleep from natural causes on Friday, January 16, 2026 War Memorial Hospital Extended Care Facility in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
Born April 23, 1939 in Berkeley Springs, W.Va. she was the daughter of the late Willard Dewey and Nellie Russell Sherrard Sheppard.
She was a member of Wesleyan Chapel in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
She graduated from Berkeley Springs High School.
Barbara was a homemaker for many years and later worked at the Berkeley Springs State Park and City National Bank until her retirement.
She loved cooking, gardening, singing and her cats.
She is survived by one son, John Aaron Michael, Shepherdstown, W.Va. and one brother, Donald Hebert Sheppard, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George John Michael, one son, David Alan Michael, two sisters, Anna Lucille Perry and Peggy Joan Kyne, and four brothers, Charles Russell Sheppard, Willard Dewey “Bill” Sheppard, Jr., Harry Vaughn Sheppard and Paul Franklin Sheppard.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, January 22, 2026 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. with Pastor Matthew Swope officiating. Interment will be in Michael Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at the funeral home.
