Bertha Jane McCoy, age 83, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2026 at her home surrounded by her family and while under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.
Born February 1, 1942 in Romney, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William “Tip” Shrout and Hazel Stewart Tedd.
Bertha was a Christian and attended Highland Church. She attended Hampshire County schools.
Bertha and her husband, Jim were co-owners and operators of The Troubadour Lounge in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
She loved to read and was an avid Commanders and Packers fan.
Bertha is survived by her children, L. Andrew Shanholtz of Sheboygan, Wis., David “Bo” Shanholtz of Highview, W.Va., Peyton O’ Bannion of Capon Bridge, W.Va., Penny McCoy and Angela Wolf, both of Santee, Calif., James “Jimmy” McCoy, Jr. of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., step-children, Sharon Diana Easter of Newport News, Va., Wesley “Wes” McCoy of Santee, Calif., 20 grandchildren, Courtney, Justin, Rachel, Zach, Michael, Andrew, Richard, Brianne, Kaylee, Kelly, Scott, Tim, Chris, Michael, Andrew, Joseph, Wesley McCoy, Jr., Roy, Bethany, James and many great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren as well as two nieces.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Wesley McCoy in 2016, one sister, Betty Shrout, five children, Gregory Shanholtz, Jeffrey Shanholtz, Angela Shanholtz, Dana Andrew McCoy and Kevin McCoy, Sr. and two late grandsons, Kevin McCoy, Jr. and Nathaniel McCoy.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. with Rich Ellis officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park, Winchester, Va.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to noon prior to the service.
