Main Street sparkles with holiday spirit during downtown event

Main Street Hancock’s annual downtown Christmas event filled Hancock on Saturday afternoon and evening with shoppers, families, vendors and community groups that joined together to create a holiday atmosphere for all ages as part of the Miracle on Main Street.

Main Street businesses were adorned with Christmas decorations, stocked with special offers and welcomed customers and visitors in with treats, music and even portable fireplaces. The event coincides with Small Business Saturday.

Along the sidewalks, vendors displayed handmade crafts, sweets, holiday snacks and free cocoa for the wandering shoppers.

Inside several vacant storefronts, community groups offered up family activities and reasons to step inside out of the chilly weather.

Hancock Elementary School set up a children’s book and craft station, Martha’s House gave away special treat bags and guides for the downtown gnome hunt.

Hancock Lion’s Club arranged the decorations of the downtown parking meter poles to add color and flair for several blocks and town decorations were in place to boost the glow of the season.

The evening closed around the town’s Christmas tree in Joseph Hancock Park with caroling, lights and the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus to greet youngsters and their families.

Autumn’s Small Bakery offered up apple butter, baked treats and more to downtown visitors on Saturday.
Volunteers from Hancock Elementary opened up in a downtown storefront to give away free children’s books and help kids decorate ornaments as a creative activity during the Miracle on Main Street.
