Travelers using Interstate 70 into Pennsylvania and needing to stretch their legs or use the restroom are going to have to wait until they reach Breezewood to do so as the rest area in Warfordsburg is remaining closed until at least January.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, or PennDOT, has said the rest area on the westbound side of I-70 in Warfordsburg will continue to be closed due to delays.
The rest area located just inside Pennsylvania along westbound I-70 has been closed since July 21 for the installation of a new water treatment system.
At the time of closure, it was expected that the project would be completed by August 24.
However, multiple delays have hampered contractors daily since the original shut down.
The next opportunity PennDOT says for the welcome center to be operational and open to the public is expected to be in January 2026, but no exact date has been provided.
PennDOT said updates on the project will be given as necessary and the public’s patience and understanding on this situation continues to be greatly appreciated.
