Shirley Maxine Everitt Heiner

1937-2025

Shirley Maxine Everitt Heiner, age 88, of Martinsburg, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown, Md.

Born May 2, 1937 in Hancock, Md., she was the daughter of the late Wilbur and Maxine Everitt.

She and Dale were long time members of St. Luke’s Methodist Church, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Shirley graduated from Hancock High School, Class of 1955.

After graduation, she married Lewis Dale Heiner of Berkeley Springs, W.Va. on March 2, 1957 in Hancock, Md. They lived in Baltimore, Md. for 40 years.

She worked at both J.C. Penney and M. Shaivitz in Baltimore, Md. After retirement, she and her husband moved to Martinsburg, W.Va.

Shirley loved her pets, especially her cats. She had many, many cats over the years both indoor and outdoor under her care. She always enjoyed spending time with family and cooking meals for all. Even in later years she was still active and wanted to go all the time, especially shopping and visiting Hancock. Shirley was a strong willed woman with a mind and ideas of her own.

Shirley is survived by one daughter, Lydia Ann Coceres (Joe) and one son, Stephen Dale Heiner (Cathy), all of Martinsburg, W.Va., three grandchildren, Jennifer (Mike), Kyle (Sheridan) and Marissa (Drew), four great-grandchildren, Tyler, Addison, Kira and Evelyn, two sisters, Milly Potter (Lester) Hedgesville, W.Va. and Judy Lutman (Gene) of Fredericksburg, Va. and one brother-in-law, Donnie Whiteside, Warfordsburg, Pa. There are also numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Lewis Dale Heiner, one granddaughter, Kristen Lee, one brother, Ronnie and his wife, Pat, one sister, Betty and one brother, Richard.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, September 18, 2025 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. with Pastor Mike Leedom officiating. Burial will be in Whips Cove Cemetery, Flickerville, Pa. The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at the funeral home.
