A 69-year-old Virginia man was killed in a fiery crash on Flickerville Road in Warfordsburg this past Sunday, August 17.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, around 3:30 a.m., John P. Nance, 69, of Staunton, Va., was traveling west on Flickerville Road and lost control of his 2012 GM Sierra while attempting to negotiate a right curve.

Nance’s truck hit the oak tree with its front end toward the right side of the front bumper, causing it to rotate clockwise.

The truck rotated approximately 270 degrees before coming to a final rest and facing east.

Police said subsequent impact and while sitting at final rest, the pickup became engulfed in flames. The pickup burned completely and ultimately extinguished itself due to running out of fuel.

Police said Nance remained in the driver seat of the truck and was pronounced deceased from the crash. Nance had been wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
