Jessie Permilla Chambers
1928-2025
Jessie Permilla Chambers, age 97, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2025 at War Memorial Hospital.
Born January 1, 1928 in Weymouth, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Harold Bailey and Elsie Lillian Beine Trumbull.
She was a graduate of Weymouth High School.
Jessie was employed as the Assistant Town Clerk in Pembroke, Mass. and later worked as a secretary at Mitre Corporation in McLean, Va.
Jessie volunteered as a tap dance instructor, formed and led Gotta Dance Troupe in Sterling, Va. and Gone Tappin’ in Berkeley Springs, W.Va. where they entertained at nursing homes and hospitals for free. She was also named Loudoun County Culture Affairs Award in 2003.
Jessie is survived by two daughters, Susan D. Chambers (William Wicks) of Sterling, Va. and Christine G. Chambers of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., one son, Robert A. Chambers, III (Nadia) of St. Petersburg, Russia, two grandchildren, Kathryn A. Sheldon (Scott) of Round Hill, Va. and Matthew A. Reed (Christina) of Herndon, Va., six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Andrew Chambers, Jr. and three sisters, Dorothy Blackstone, Joyce McGurn and Joan Cahoon.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2025 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 49 S. Green Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. with Pastor Josh Rider officiating. Burial will be private.
