The town’s Public Works crew handled a “pretty significant” water leak along Resley Street on July 4, which had been called in by a citizen.
Mayor Roland Lanehart, Jr. said he and Town Manager Mike Faith were at the leak site while crews were fixing the leak.
Lanehart said he stayed for about three hours but Faith stayed a little longer.
The mayor said crews got to the leak around 5 p.m. that evening and had it repaired around 9 p.m.
The line is the one on Resley Street that goes behind the houses and would need to be replaced.
The main on that street is under the road, which was just paved, but won’t need to be touched.
“The pipe was shot,” Lanehart said.
Faith said what might have to happen is replace a section of the line behind one of the house as there have been issues in that area.
Mowing and flowers
Lanehart added Public Works, along with the inmates crew, are trying to get caught up on mowing and tending to the flower beds along Main Street.
A few have been taken care of, but there are still a few flowerbeds still in need of care.
Town CD up for renewal
The town has two CDs with CNB, which are the town’s rainy day funds.
In talking to other towns, Faith said they are lucky to have 5% of the town’s budget in their emergency funds.
“We have a lot more than that. We’re in really good shape as far as that goes,” Faith said.
He said if there were a major emergency, it could wipe it all out, but the town is doing pretty good with what they have.
One of the CDs is at $531,000, which is ok. The second is at $85,000 and up for renewal.
As of right now, the town is in a grace period with that one.
CNB has offered the town two options for renewal of 4% for seven or 10 months, but Lanehart wanted to have officials discuss the terms before a decision was made.
Councilwoman Terry Breakall-Smith wondered if the town could get the rate at 4% for the seven months, which Faith said they could.
Rates could go up or down and seeing those possible, Breakall-Smith said why not take the shorter term if it’s needed or they change.
Officials agreed for the seven month renewal.
