1955-2025

If you are reading this in The Hancock News, I didn’t make it to the age of 70.

Steve Lineweaver, age 69, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at his home.

Born December 23, 1955 in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., he was the son of the late Orbra Leroy “Mutt” and Moretta Mae Carder Lineweaver.

He was a 1974 graduate of Berkeley Springs High School.

Steve served in the United States Army from December 9, 1974 until his honorable discharge on December 12, 1977 at the rank of SP4.

He worked as an equipment mechanic with NASA.

Steve was a member of the Mountain State Cruisers and the Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post #60.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and scenic rides on his motorcycles and his red 1966 Ford truck.

Steve is survived by his wife, Tanya Lynn Waugh Lineweaver, at home, two sisters, Brenda K. Mason of Berkeley Springs, W.Va. and Suzanne Smith of Delmont, Pa. and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Carol “Boo” Fortini and Elaine M. Lincoln.

Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., where the family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until service time. The funeral home will be open from 11 a.m. until services for the convenience of family and friends. Pastor Jack W. Hiles, Jr. will officiate. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Steve’s name may be made to the Mountain State Cruisers Scholarship Fund, PO Box 957, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Andrew Berens, his wife, Phyllis and staff and the medical staff of WVU Medicine for all the care that they gave to him.
