A splashy way to cool down

by Lisa Schauer

The Stanley Fulton Memorial Splash Park is in full operation for the summer at Widmyer Park in Hancock.

Families cool off at the new splash pad at Widmyer Park in Hancock on Monday, June 23. The splash pad is free and open to the public.

A heat advisory has been in effect for Washington County since the official start of summer on Friday, June 20, with near record high temperatures across the area. Heat indexes were reaching 104 degrees on Monday, with no significant cooldown in sight this week.

A dangerous, widespread heat dome of high pressure will continue to bake much of the central and eastern U.S., bringing the hottest temperatures of the year and uncomfortably muggy air that could last into the weekend, according to The Weather Channel.
