Sophie Creek
1939-2025
Sophie “LaVerne” Creek, age 85, of Hancock, Md., went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, May 30, 2025.
Sophie was born August 12, 1939 in Berkeley Springs, W.Va. She was the daughter of the late Lewis J. Hendershot, Sr. and the late Hazel “Peg” Hendershot.
She attended school in Berkeley Springs, W.Va. and had various employments throughout her life.
She was a member of Mahnes United Methodist Church and served on the board of child care.
She is survived by two daughters, Connie Creek and Sandra Bucher, three sons, David Creek, Sr. (Brenda), Philip Creek and Matthew Creek, Sr. (Lisa), four sisters, MaryElen Willingham, Valetta J. Boudreau, Rhoda Reed and Pearl Rebecca Hendershot, one brother, Norval E. Hendershot, 20 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Carl Creek, Sr. in November, 2019, one son, two brothers, one sister, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., where the family receive from 3 p.m. until service time. Burial was private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in LaVerne’s memory may be made directly to the funeral home to help defray funeral expenses.
