Andrew L. Bohan, Sr.

1936-2025

Andrew L. Bohan, Sr., age 88, of Hancock, Md. passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 11, 2025 at Blue Ridge Hospice in Winchester, Va.

Born on October 15, 1936, he was the son of the late Andrew Bohan and Virginia Bohan. He grew up on Locust Hill in Point Marion, Pa. and had fond memories of hunting and fishing with his brother and uncles. A

ndy proudly served as a Corporal in the U. S. Marine Corps from 1953 through 1957. He completed paratrooper training and was stationed in Korea and Japan. He received the National Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. He enjoyed his time overseas and shared many stories about his service there. He loved the M1 rifle which was the rifle issued to him as a Marine. He was very proud of his service to our country.

Andy resided in Hagerstown, Maryland relocating to Hancock, Md. in the early 1990s. He was employed as a security guard at General Motors in Martinsburg, W.Va. for many years retiring in 1995.

He enjoyed every day of his retirement and had a deep knowledge of military history focused on the Civil and World Wars. His understanding of rifles and ammunition was extraordinary. Many people sought out his expertise when contemplating a purchase or repair. Andy developed a love of competitive shooting and competed in various competitions over the years. He was a lifelong member of the NRA.

Andy loved his family and regaled them frequently with stories, funny jokes, songs, and pranks. He loved nature and animals especially his dogs and grand dogs over the years. We referred to him as the dog whisperer. He also had eclectic taste in music ranging from classical to current day artists.

Andy was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Jane Bohan and his brother John Bohan.

He is survived by daughter Terry Scarborough and husband Woody of Williamsport, Md., son, Andrew Bohan, Jr. and wife Lynda of Smithsburg, Md., daughter Bonnie Davis and husband Bill of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., sisters, Bonnie Yanero of Fairmont, W.Va. and Charlotte Bass of Cleveland Ohio. Andy is survived by his grandchildren, Doug Snodderly, Samantha Mellott, Tiffany Morton, Andrew Bohan, Alyssa Davis, Billy Davis, Kelley Parker, Dolan Scarborough, Mary Scarborough, and William Scarborough, great-grandchildren include Ember Mellott, Lila, Alexandra, and Violet Morton, Olivia and Henry Bohan, Kirsten and Kyle Parker and Millie McGuire.

Private graveside services will be held in Tonoloway Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Warfordsburg, Pa.
