For the 24th year, local residents in Hancock met in Widmeyer Park on Good Friday morning to carry a wooden cross through town on their way to St. Peter’s Catholic Church to remember the Passion of Jesus Christ.
On a bright, sunny morning, about 40 people met at the Lions Pavilion in Widmeyer Park last Friday morning, April 18, at the start of the annual Cross Walk with Rev. Jean Squires from the Hancock Area Cooperative Parish (Hancock United Methodist Church) reading from John 18:1-11, a reflection on the scripture reading, followed by a verse from the hymn, “Were You There?”

The walk went to the Hancock United Methodist Church, Martha’s House, Rail Trail Gazebo, Hancock Presbyterian Church Outdoor Chapel, two stops at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, and two stops at St. Peter’s Catholic Church.
Clergy members – Rev. Becki Wessinger from Hancock Untied Methodist Church, Rev. Jeff Hawbaker of Orchard Ridge Church of God, Chaplain Ron Martin-Minnich of the Hancock Presbyterian Church, Rev. Terry Martin-Minnich, Rev. Steve McCarty of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Deacon Kirk DeVore, Rev. Jack Lombardi, of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, and Deacon James Mason – all contributed a scripture reading and reflection at each of the stops. Various hymns were also sung before moving to each stop.
Along the way, volunteers carried the wood cross to each stop, standing with it while the scripture was read and reflection given.
