Hancock Volunteer Fire Department brought home their newest piece of apparatus last Wednesday, April 2, when Tanker 5 rolled onto Fulton Street and in front of the fire station.

The new tanker replaces Engine Tanker 53 in Hancock’s fleet.

On Sunday, April 6, Engine Tanker 53 was placed out of service and was headed to its new home at the Horton Township Volunteer Fire Company in Brockport, Pennsylvania.

The engine tanker arrived at the HTVFC station Sunday evening.

Hancock Volunteer Fire Company announced it was getting the new tanker more than two years ago — in a January 12, 2023, social media post.

In the post, it stated the new tanker is a Kenworth T-880 with a 565HP Cummins, hold 3,000 gallons of water and 1250 pump.

The money was raised through a $500,000 grant written in February 2022 through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and a Rural Development Community Facility Grant, and through fund drives and fundraisers.

The fire company was giving folks updates on the tanker throughout the build on their social media page.

The new tanker was built by 4 Guys Fire.

Tanker 5 has not been placed in service yet, as firefighters need to take training on how to operate this specific model and its tools and features.
