After a couple of months out of service, the elevator in Town Hall is back in working order.
Town Manager Mike Faith told town officials during the March 11 town meeting that the fire system has been installed to the point that the elevator works.
The elevator had been out of order due to a malfunction and the elevator system thinking there was a fire when there wasn’t.
Faith said the wiring has been complete and all the fire alarm company has to do is come in and connect their panel to finish that part of the project.
Then there’s the rest of the building to worry about.
“They did a lot of work this time because they had to,” Faith said.
He said they removed an old pull alarm from the hallway outside the main meeting room and will be replaced by something else.
A control panel was installed by the Public Works’ office and another will be installed at the door closest to the police department.
This way, whenever an employee or the fire department comes in, they’ll see it and if there’s an error code.
There had been organizations that met on the second floor with members who had mobility issues, so the town made accommodations for them to meet downstairs while the elevator was down.
Before the new system was installed, Faith said a company had come in to try and patch the system together to save the town some money.
However, they couldn’t find the pieces they needed and after submitting the idea to the State Fire Marshall Office wouldn’t allow it because it was antiquated.
Town officials approved the installation of the new system and it’s at a point the elevator can be used safely.
