by Geoff Fox

The Hancock Panthers football team has named a new football coach ahead of the fall season.

Hancock Principal Jennifer Ruppenthal sent an email early Tuesday morning, March 18, to Panther families announcing the new coach.

“After an extensive search, we are thrilled to welcome Coach Greg Cartrette as the new head football coach at Hancock Middle Senior High School,” Ruppenthal said.

Cartrette previously coached at Southen Garrett, was head coach of the Western Maryland Cougars semi-professional team, and served as the defensive coordinator for Team USA Football.

“Coach Cartrette brings a wealth of experience and a deep passion for the game,” Ruppenthal said. “His leadership, experience, and commitment to player development make him an asset to our program.”

Ruppenthal also noted Cartette has played a pivotal role in developing young athletes as the director of youth camps in Philadelphia.

Carlette’s goal, Ruppenthal said, is to continue to build a strong Panther program with a focus on developing student-athletes who excel on and off the field.

Cartrette is also dedicated to promoting a positive team culture emphasizing hard work, discipline, and sportsmanship.

In the email, Ruppenthal invited all students, parents, and community members to join in welcoming Cartrette to the Hancock Middle-Senior High School family.

“We look forward to an exciting season ahead and can’t wait to see the impact he will make on our student-athletes,” she said.

Ruppenthal said the school will be hosting an interest meeting for students in grades 8-11 on Thursday, March 20, from 3 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
