Panther boys close season with tough losses

Maryland School for the Deaf came out onto the court firing off shots on Monday, February 24 and didn’t quit, topping the Hancock Panthers 77-47. The MSF Orioles put 21 points on the board in the first quarter, another 21 in the second quarter and then lit up the board with 25 points in the third quarter, leaving the Panthers little room to catch up.

Hancock boys scored consistently throughout the game, and rallied in the fourth quarter with 15 points – their biggest scoring rush of the game.

The loss followed a tough game on Friday, February 21 against cross-river rival Berkeley Springs. The Indians kept the pressure on for the whole game, gaining an advantage they never lost, as Berkeley Springs won 63-39.

Junior Ethan Hill was Hancock’s top scorer against the Indians, with 9 points on the board. Senior Jacob Anderson was close behind with 8 points, with contributions from all Panthers on the scoreboard.

On Saturday, February 22, the Panthers fell to the Paw Paw Pirates with a score of 74-52. Despite bursts of big scoring, Hancock did not catch up to the Pirates, who finished out the game with a rush of 23 points in the fourth quarter. Jacob Anderson again led scoring for Hancock with 14 points, followed by Ethan Hill and Colton Welch, who added 11 points each to the board.

The Hancock Panthers end their season with a record of 7-12, dividing their wins between home and away games.
