Pa. State Police handle I-70 accidents

Two accidents along Interstate 70 in Fulton County earlier this month kept Pennsylvania State Police busy.

The first accident occurred in the very early morning hours of Wednesday, February 12 in the Warfordsburg area along eastbound I-70.

According to police, around 12:43 a.m., a 2022 Chevrolet Express van was traveling east on the interstate in the area of the 161-mile marker at an unsafe speed for the snowy/wet conditions.

Police said the crash occurred when the driver, Jordahan Young, 23, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, lost control of the van and drove off the roadway, striking an embankment with the front end.

The van continued traveling east and eventually drove back onto the interstate and then rolled over on it’s driver side, sliding on the roadway about 60 feet.

Police said the van came to a final rest about 200 feet after the initial impact, facing mostly west.

Painters Garage towed the van from the scene and no injuries were reported.

Needmore Volunteer Fire Company assisted at the scene.

Another accident a few days later occurred just a few miles from that scene, this time involving a pickup.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, around 11:30 p.m. on Monday, February 17, a 2009 Ford F-150XL T was traveling eastbound on Interstate 70 in the Warfordsburg area near the 163.5-mile marker when the pick up drove off the right side of the interstate and struck an embankment with the right front.

The pickup continued along the embankment for about 60 feet before coming to a controlled final rest along the right shoulder.

Police said the pickup sustained three flat tires, but no other damage. No injuries were reported on scene.

Hancock Volunteer Fire Company assisted at the scene with traffic control.
