Larry Gilbert Barney, Sr.

1947-2025

Larry Gilbert Barney, Sr., age 77, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Friday, January 31, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family.

Born May 19, 1947 in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., he was the son of the late Gilbert Roscoe “Buddy” and Agnes LaVerne Shives Barney.

He was a member of the Berkeley Springs Church of the Nazarene.

Larry was a 1964 class graduate of Berkeley Springs High School.

He worked for the WVDOH for 17 years. Larry worked until his retirement with Morgan County Schools as the transportation director and for over 50 years he owned operated Larry’s Used Appliances.

He was an active life member of the Jr. O. U. A. M. Council #117 where he served as Past Councilor, State Past Councilor, Past National Representative and served as treasurer for many years.

Larry loved his auctions and to tinker around.

Larry is survived by his children, Misty Lyne Keefer (Jeffery), Larry Gilbert “Jay” Barney, Jr. (Dawn) and Moria Leigh Fox, (Jeremy), all of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., one brother, Rusty Jay Barney of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., eight grandchildren, Jeffery Keefer, Jr. (Victoria), Amanda Elizabeth Goshorn (Shawn), Matthew James Keefer (Brianna Florian), Larry Jay Barney (Holly), Levi Hunter Barney (Alexis), Brooke Renae Souders (Brady), Savannah Leigh Fontaine (Nicholas) and Jeremy Steven Fox, Jr., 11 great-grandchildren, Colson Lee Souders, Gracelynn Leigh Fontaine, Amelia Belle Bebb, Kaisley Mae Barney, Walker Jay Barney, Blake Matthew Walter, Kyra Lou Barney, Carson Nathanael Keefer, Jenna Nicole Keefer, Jackie Lauren Keefer and Landon Cole Goshorn and many nieces and nephews and his faithful fur baby companion, Lacy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Nancy Lou Fox Barney, two sisters, Janet LaVerne Bearup and Pamela Jean Shanholtz and one brother, Randy Allen Barney.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. with Pastor Rodney Truax officiating. Private burial will be in Johnson Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. & 5-7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home where a Jr. O. U. A. M. memorial service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m.
