William Edward Whiteside

1930-2025

William Edward Whiteside, age 94, of Warfordsburg, Pa., died on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at his home.

Born February 21, 1930 in Lancaster County, Pa., he was the son of the late David Malcolm and Rintha Mae Diehl Whiteside.

He was a member of Whips Cove Christian Church.

Bill was a high school graduate and was selected and graduated from Army War College. He served with the United States Army from January 12, 1949 until his honorable discharge on August 25, 1952 at the rank of Corporal during the Korean War.

Bill worked as a mechanic with B&P Motor Express in Pittsburgh, Pa., for 27 years and Maintenance Supervisor with Fulton County Public Schools until his retirement in 1998. He also owned and operated Whiteside’s Restaurant in Crystal Springs, Pa. Bill was also employed by Mack Truck in Hagerstown, Md., and PennDot Winter Maintenance.

He was a member of James W. Bowers Lodge #173 A.F. & A.M., Hancock, Md., Jaffa Shrine, Altoona, Pa., Warfordsburg Lions Club and Warfordsburg Odd Fellows Lodge.

Bill is survived by two sons, David Michael Whiteside (Diane) and William Curtis Whiteside (Sharon), both of Warfordsburg, Pa.; one brother, Donald Malcolm Whiteside, Warfordsburg, Pa.; 11 grandchildren, Meredith Moria Hendershot, Amy Brooke Damoulakis, Bradley Michael Whiteside, Brian William Whiteside, Shonda Marie Price, James Anthony Whiteside, William Spencer Whiteside, Destane Nikole Morris, Dylan Watson Whiteside, Kristina Eli Aviles and Samantha Ann Plank; 23 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Betty Louise Whiteside; one son, Edward Malcolm Whiteside; one grandson, Jeremy Page “JP” Whiteside and two sisters, Anna Mae Polson and Della Jane Whiteside.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at Whips Cove Christian Church, 5044 Moss Road, Warfordsburg, Pa., with Pastors Delmas Bard, Jimmy Whiteside and Bill Croteau. Military honors were provided by the Tri-State Honor Guard. Private burial was in Whips Cove Cemetery. There was a Masonic Rites at 7 p.m. on Friday, January 24, at the church.
