Hancock Fire Department quickly handled a fire at a residence on Fairview Drive on Monday evening, December 16.
Crews were dispatched at 5:03 p.m. for a single-story house fire at 126 Fairview Drive in Hancock. A neighbor had discovered the fire.
When crews arrived, they found fire coming from the front side of the house, fire officials said.
The occupant of the house was removed from the basement and they denied EMS attention.
The fire itself was contained within six minutes of being alerted to the fire and a total of 20 minutes in all.
A total of 35 firefighters from Hancock, Morgan County, Fulton County, and Allegany County responded to the fire.
According to the Maryland State Fire Marshall, the fire originated in an interior bedroom of the residence.
No smoke alarm was present, fire officials said.
American Red Cross was notified and is helping the occupant. Family is also assisting with the occupant.
The State Fire Marshall’s Office is handling the investigation.
The estimated loss is around $60,000, the Fire Marshall’s Office said.
