Georgia LaVerne Bishop Long
1932-2024
Georgia LaVerne Bishop Long, 91, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at her residence while under the care of Hospice of The Panhandle.
Born on October 29, 1932 in Spring Gap, Md. she was the daughter of the late Joseph Frederick and Ollie Rinker Bishop. Georgia was also proceeded in death by her loving husband, Gary Duane Long in 2004.
Georgia was a high school graduate. She was a member of Union Chapel United Methodist Church and a bookkeeper for many years. Her many accomplishments included her being a 62 year member and Past Matron of Berkeley Chapter #77 O.E.S., former Grand Representative to New Jersey and Mississippi, past Queen of Re Temple #118 in Cumberland, Md., a member of the Daughters of The American Revolution in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and president of Hagerstown-Cumberland District Board of Child Care for 20 years.
Georgia is survived by one son, Gary Alan Long (Pat); two daughters, Deborah Moore (Roger) and Sandra Strakal; one daughter-in-law, Penny Long; one sister, Dessie Powell; two brothers, Robert Bishop and Thomas Bishop; eight grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Eugene Duane Long and one brother, James “Sonny” Bishop.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Union Chapel United Methodist Church on Saturday, November 2 at 11 a.m. with an Eastern Star Memorial Service. Pastor Michael Leedom will officiate.
