Judith S. Pennings

Judith S. Pennings, age 82, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at her home while under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.

Born November 15, 1941.

Judie has always been a special soul. Her life began right around Valentine’s Day of 1941.

Her parents, Glenn Curtis (Tink) (2012) and Nancy Virginia (Ginny) Smith (1965) lived in a small town Piedmont, W.Va. They named her Judie Gaye. She was a very happy soul but also had a mischievous streak.

She had one older brother, Henry Clay (2009) (wife Elaine), sons, Eric and Forrest (wife Ramona, daughter, Alison, son Ethan).

Judith enjoyed cheerleading and dancing. She and her partner “Butsy” Burk won a county dance contest. Judie completed three years of nurses training at the old Winchester Hospital, where she loved working in the newborn department.

She shared a 30 year marriage with Ken Newbraugh. They had three children, Kenneth (wife Yasumi, daughter, Akina), Troy (partner, Karen, stepdaughter, Bridget, son, Brett) and Monica (2013) (husband, Dave, daughters, Bethany (husband, William), Jennifer (partner, Julius and Hannah (husband, Michael. Judie has three great-grandchildren.

Judie worked at US Silica for many years. While raising her family in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., she was very active in the schools. Her house was warm and welcoming place and a center of activity.

July 2, 1994 marked the beginning of her next major adventure in life. She married the man she first met riding a black Goldwing motorcycle, husband, Bruce Pennings. Stepchildren, Ken (wife, Jane) and Ryan.

She was soon employed as the family business office manager where she worked till 2007. The extended Pennings family included Wilbur (2000) and Margaret (f&m), brothers, Rick (Carol with four sons and one daughter plus many grandchildren, Brad (Jan with four sons) and Brian (Sue with three daughters and one son).

Judie was loved and respected wherever her life led her. Her mother-in-law once described her as pure in spirit. Our ultimate purpose in this life is to learn to love. I think she has already heard the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant, enter now into My peace.” She is now celebrating with her departed loved ones.

Private graveside services will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, La Vale, Md.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Judie’s memory may be made to the Boys & Girls Club of Eastern Panhandle-Morgan County, 261 Berkmore Place #2A, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411.
