Herbert Mosier

1932-2024

This obituary shares the life of Herbert Mosier, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather. Family was everything to Herb.

Herbert “Herb” Edward Mosier, 92, of Hancock, Maryland, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, in his home surrounded by his loving and devoted family. The walls were filled with love helping him peacefully make that journey home.

Herb was born on February 27, 1932, in Hancock. He was the son of the late John Henry and Fannie (Fisher) Mosier.

He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-nine years, Mary Mason Mosier. Along with their six loving children, Sherrie Blankley with husband Steve, Vicky Creek with husband Scott, Frieda May with husband Dave, Herbert Mosier II with wife Judy, Peggy Shives with husband Rick, and Missy Bloyer with husband Mike. Seven grandchildren, Eddie with wife Alicia, Becky with husband Ken, Danny, Amy with husband Jeremy, Ashley with husband Josh, Kris with husband Dakota, and Austin. Two step grandchildren, Steven with wife Ashley, and CJ. Nine great grandchildren, Hailie, Carson, Blaise, Isidora, Trent, Savanna, Parker, Brooke and Cohen. Five step great grandchildren, Abby, Nathan, Scarlett, William and Jade. Two great great grandchildren, Beckett and baby on the way. Sister-in-law, Dottie Mosier, nephews, nieces and many other loving family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, William (Moose) Mosier, an infant brother and infant grandson, Herbert Mosier III.

As a very young man, Herb learned to work hard to take care of his growing family, over the years he was employed by The Home Center, Ed Younker, Danhearts Feedstore, Washington County roads and he farmed the place he called home for most of his life.

Herb was a simple man with a heart of gold who never met a stranger. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, old westerns and his old country music. Even in his final days he was singing along with Johnny Cash, tapping his hand to the beat. However, Herb’s favorite thing was spending time with his family. If you know anything about this family, you’ll know there was always family lunch on Sundays. There was always food on the stove our entire lives, regardless of what was happening in the world, we could always come together at Grandma and Pap’s. He will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him best.

A celebration of his long and blessed life was held on Saturday, October 5, at 12 p.m. at Orchard Ridge First Church of God, 14128 Orchard Ridge Rd., Hancock, Md. 21750. Pastor Jeff Hawbaker officiated. The family received friends two hours prior to the service, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the church. Committal took place following the service at the church cemetery.
