The Hancock Panthers varsity football team scored the most points of the season in their 49-20 victory over the Hornets at Hundred High School in West Virginia last Friday night, September 27.
The Panthers led by one after the first quarter, and then turned on the heat, leading 36-6 at the half.
Despite coming back with two more touchdowns, the Hornets simply couldn’t stop the Panthers from bringing home the win.
The Panthers are now ranked second for team rushing in their division, which includes Washington County’s six other public high schools, in Boonsboro, Clear Spring, North Hagerstown, South Hagerstown, Smithsburg and Williamsport, plus one private school in Hagerstown.
The schools compete in Maryland’s District 1 in the Western Region, which includes Allegany, Carroll, Frederick, Garrett and Washington counties.
With an average of over 181 yards per game, the Panthers team has rushed for 725 yards so far this season.
This week, the Panthers (1-3) look to keep the momentum going for a non-league match in Blacksville, W.Va. against the Clay-Battelle Cee Bees (1-3) on Friday, October 4 at 7 p.m.
