Three people, two of whom were children, were flown to D.C. area hospitals after a single-vehicle crash last Tuesday morning on Interstate 70.
According to Maryland State Police, shortly before 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 10, troopers from the Maryland State Police Hagerstown Barrack responded to the area of eastbound I-70, near the 11-mile marker in the area of Big Pool, for a report of a single vehicle crash.
Police said in their preliminary investigation, a Mazda driven by Yelson Aguilar, 19, of Baltimore, was traveling east on I-70 when, for unknown reasons, traveled off the roadway and subsequently over turning in the median.
Aguilar was transported to Meritus Medical Center by ambulance for his injuries.
Police said a passenger and two six-year old children were flown by Maryland State Police Helicopters Trooper 3 and Trooper 5 to MedStar Washington Hospital Center and Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C. for treatment of their injuries.
The interstate was closed for more than an hour for the crash investigation. The Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the investigation and the investigation is active and ongoing.
