Beginning Monday, August 26, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin two more Hancock area road projects – two bridge inspections on the U.S. 522 bridge and asphalt patching on Heavenly Acres Ridge.
The bridge inspections will be the U.S. 522 bridge over the Potomac River and the bridge over Main Street and Limestone Road.
Crews will work on both bridges Mondays through Thursdays from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the bridge over the river where drivers can expect a flagging operation on the bridge during work hours.
Crews will work on the U.S. 522 bridge over Limestone Road and Main Street from under the bridge and use a flagging operation on southbound Limestone Road.
A contingency plan in the event of rain would be to perform the inspection from 9 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.
The SHA’s contractor Wallace, Montgomery & Associates, LLP, of Hunt Valley, Md., will use electronic message boards, barrels, and cones to guide motorists safely through the work zone.
SHA advises people to plan additional drive time for their commute during this time.
The SHA will also begin an asphalt patching project the same day on MD 615, or Heavenly Acres Ridge, from I-70 to the Pennsylvania line with the work taking approximately two weeks, weather permitting.
Crews will work Mondays through Fridays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and drivers can expect a flagging operation in both directions to maintain traffic on MD 615 from the eastbound I-70 exit to the Pennsylvania line those days.
The SHA’s contractor C. William Hetzer, Inc., of Hagerstown, will use electronic message boards, detour signs, barrels, and cones to guide motorists safely through the work zone.
