The suspect in multiple shootings at a large party in eastern Morgan County last Monday, August 5 has been jailed and is in custody in Virginia on fugitive from justice charges.

Montello DeMarco Scott, 18, was taken into custody on Thursday, August 8 in Shenandoah County, Virginia without incident. He is being held without bond at the RSW Regional Jail in Front Royal.

Morgan County Sheriff K.C. Bohrer told The Morgan Messenger on Monday that Scott was apprehended when he showed up for a scheduled traffic court hearing in Woodstock, Va.

Scott was taken into custody on an arrest warrant from Morgan County. He was wanted on four counts of malicious wounding.

Police had distributed a “Wanted” poster listing Scott’s name and age and the charges, but no photo.

Bohrer said Deputy Bradley Knotts, one of the investigating officers in the case, went to interview Scott at  RSW Regional Jail to continue his investigation into the shooting incident, which sent two individuals to the hospital for medical care.

He said the officers continue to look into the party and shootings, testing for gun shot residue and examining multiple ammunition cartridges in differing  calibers found at the scene. Bohrer said cartridges from a .40, .22 and 9mm were found at the property, but police have not determined they were all shot the night of the party.

Bohrer said Scott may fight extradition out of Virginia back to Morgan County to face the malicious wounding charges.

Investigators are still wanting to speak to party attendees about what they saw and heard in the Cherry Run area on August 5.

At press time, Bohrer did not know the medical status of the shooting victims.
