Ronald William VanGosen

1939-2024

Ronald William “Ronnie” VanGosen, age 85, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at War Memorial Hospital.

Born March 29, 1939 in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., he was the son of the late Berkeley Carter and Martha Ellen Barney VanGosen.

He was a Christian. Ron attended Morgan County public schools.

He was owner-operator of Ron’s Auto Repair and a mechanic with Roy’s Service Center.

Ron was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1483 and a lifetime member of Berkeley Springs Volunteer Fire Company, where he served as fire chief in 1974.

He enjoyed watching NASCAR races and westerns. Ron loved spending time in the pit area and watching races at the Hagerstown Speedway.

Ron is survived by his wife of 19 years, Debra Jean Fritzman VanGosen, at home, six children, Ronald Dean VanGosen, Sr., Denise Marie VanGosen and Carol Lee Kerns, all of Berkeley Springs, Darrell Richard VanGosen of Great Cacapon, W.Va., Brian William VanGosen of Martinsburg, W.Va. and Michael Anthony Fritzman of Indianapolis, Ind., two sisters, Betty Burton and Nancy Havermale, both of Berkeley Springs, 15 grandchildren, Shawn VanGosen, Michael VanGosen, Carlton VanGosen, Misty Henderson, Amanda Henderson, Brandy Putman, Melissa VanGosen, Ronald “DJ” VanGosen, Jr., Shantae Carbaugh, Nicole Schultz, Jay Schultz, Adam Schultz, Bradley VanGosen, Cody VanGosen and Lucas Fritzman and many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Theresa VanGosen, four sisters, Fairy “Jeanne” Oyerly, Ethel Bent, Phyllis Wills and Biddy Courtney and five brothers, Clyde VanGosen, Eldridge VanGosen, Richard VanGosen, Robert VanGosen and Larry VanGosen.

Funeral services were conducted at noon on Monday, August 5, 2024 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., where the family received friends from 10 a.m. until service time. Pastor BJ Worley officiated. Burial will be private.
