The WWE crowned a new United States Champion this past Saturday night, August 3, at their premium live event SummerSlam and the new champ is from Washington County.
In the third match of the night, L.A. Knight (real name Shaun Ricker) pinned YouTube star turned professional wrestler Logan Paul during the annual event to capture his first championship belt in his WWE career.
Paul had held the US Title for over 270 days after winning the belt at the 2023 Crown Jewel premium live event last November.
The “Mega Star” can be seen Friday nights on Smackdown on Fox. On September 13, Smackdown moves to the USA Network.
Knight is from Hagerstown and just before Christmas last year, he received a key to the city.
Over the course of his 21-year career, Knight has worked for a number of promotions including independent promotions, NWA, TNA, and WWE.
