Robert Dale Golden, Sr.
1944-2024
Robert Dale Golden Sr. “Bobby,” 79, died peacefully with his niece and sister by his side on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at War Memorial Hospital, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., following a long battle with Emphysema and COPD.
Born Wednesday, November 15, 1944, the first child to John Robert and Violet Pauline (Jackson) Golden in Hagerstown, Md.
He was a 1962 graduate of Hancock High School.
Bobby was a carpenter by trade and spent most of his life working with his hands. He loved to fish and hunt, although he had been unable for the last several years due to his declining health. Many recall stories of first hunting trips, dipping off the point and fishing trips where Bobby always had to bring in the largest catch. On May 5, 1973, while fishing Sideling Hill Creek, Bobby caught a Rainbow Trout using corn for bait on a No. 12 hook with an 8lb. line. The fish weighed 7lbs. 4oz., was 24 1/2” long with 13 1/2” girth for which Bobby received a Fresh Water Citation Certificate and Patch from the Department of Natural Resources of Maryland signed by the Governor.
Bobby served in the US Navy from 1962 to 1966 serving on USS Little Rock.
He is survived by four sons, Robert D. Golden, Jr. (Bobby Jr.), Brian K. Golden, Ryan L. Golden, and Nicholas R. Golden (Kassandra); grandsons, Kayden A. and Leland D. Golden; granddaughter, Wren B. Golden; brothers, Dennis K. Golden, Stanley F. Golden (Geraldine); sisters, Linda J. Bishop (John), Cynthia A. Trail, Kathy S. Hixon (Allan, Jr.); brother-in-law, Dwayne McFadden; and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends too numerous to name.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents to include his beloved grandmother Myrtle T (Brady) Jackson, 1991, and his baby sister Jacqueline “Jackie” L (Golden) McFadden, 2023, as well as sister-in-law, Sue Golden, 2021, and brother-in-law, Larry Trail, 2017; two nieces, Lori Ann Shoemaker, 1980, and Nicole Yonker, 2021; three nephews, Aaron Golden, 1975, Eric McFadden, 1987, and Michael Barnard, 2019.
Family will receive friends on Friday, July 19, 2024, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Grove-Rogowski Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, Md. 21750. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Grove-Rogowski Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery, Hancock, Md. Pastor Dick Bernhard will officiate.
