D. Leon Younker
1944-2024
D. Leon Younker “JUMBO,” age 80, of Mercersburg, Pennsylvania, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at his home.
Born Friday, May 12, 1944, in Fulton County, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Kreps and Estella Hanes Younker.
As a young man, Leon worked on Kermit Mellott’s farm and enjoyed fishing at the creek. Later in life, he became friends with Bob Swadley who had a garden on Leon’s property, where they worked together and shared the vegetables they grew with the neighbors.
Leon loved all animals and one special dog, “Nicky.”
Leon was employed by P&W Construction for over 33 years, retiring in 2020. He also worked for Chemical Lehman in Hagerstown, Maryland for several years.
Leon is survived by his daughter, Bobbi Jo Trovinger and husband Clay of Little Orleans, Md. and his caregiver, Shirley A. Younker, Bobbi Jo’s mother, who Bobbi Jo would like to thank for her loving and compassionate care for her father throughout the years. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Whitney Reikie and husband Dave of Fredericksburg, Va.; three sisters, Argyle Sensel of Hagerstown, Md., Connie Booth of Warfordsburg, Pa., and Barbara Deneen of Hancock, Md.; five brothers, Edward Younker of Harrisonville Pa., Randy Younker of McConnellsburg, Pa., Vaughn Younker of Falling Waters, Wv., Maurice Younker of Mercersburg Pa., Carl Younker of Big Cove Tannery, Pa. and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give a special thanks to hospice nurse “Joey” for all her care.
In addition to his parents, Leon is preceded in death by his sister, Marlene Hill and three brothers, Eldon P. Younker, Guy A. Younker and Donald L. Younker.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 12 p.m. at Damascus Christian Church, 717 Big Cove Tannery Road, Big Cove Tannery, Pa. The family received friends two hours prior to the service, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Pastor Russell Hoffman officiated.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Grove-Rogowski Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, Md.
