Richard James Wills

1946-2024

Richard James Wills, age 77, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at Hospice of the Panhandle Inpatient Care Facility in Kearneysville, W.Va.

Born July 1, 1946 in Hagerstown, Md., he was the son of the late Mary Swella McCumbee Wills.

He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

Richard was a graduate of Berkeley Springs High School.

He served with the United States Army from February 28, 1967 until his honorable discharge on February 28, 1969 with the rank of Specialist 5th class and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. He worked in law enforcement as an agent.

Richard enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing his drums and cars, especially his corvettes.

Richard is survived by his wife of 58 years, Diane Marie Miller Wills, at home, his daughter, Kelly Diane Wills of Berkeley Springs, one sister-in-law Mary Beatrice Skoskie of Melbourne, Fla., two brothers-in-law, Kenneth Wayne Miller and his wife, Gale of State College, Pa. and Daniel Thomas Miller and his wife, Carolyn of Hedgesville, W.Va. and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Gary Douglas Miller and Joe Skokie, two sisters-in-law, Shirley Ann Miller and Clara Marie Miller and one nephew, Anthony “Tony” Miller.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at Bethel Cemetery, 5311 Cemetery Lane, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.. Father Mike Lecias will officiate. Graveside military honors will be provided by the Tri-State Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Richard’s memory may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 330 Hospice Lane, Kearneysville, WV 25430 or to the Tri-State Honor Guard, c/o Tom Kiley, 527 N. Washington Street, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411.
