Hancock’s Track and Field team propelled themselves beyond the Washington County Championship to the regional showdown last Wednesday, May 15. Two athletes – Waylon Leach and Logan Trumpower – will represent Hancock as they compete in the May 22 MPSSAA 1A State Track & Field Championship at Prince George’s Sports Complex. Leach qualified for the Shot Put state final and Trumpower will compete in the High Jump event.
At the West Region Championships on Wednesday, May 15 at the Fort Hill High School stadium, the Hancock Boys Varsity team’s performance earned them a 10th place slot.
Boys’ Varsity
400 Meter – Hancock’s Eamon Faith came in 24th place with his Personal Record (PR) of 1:02.00
4×100 Relay – Hancock’s team of Aiden McCarty, Landyn Clark, Jacob Anderson and Shawn Thomas came in 10th with a time of 47.22
4×200 Relay — Hancock’s team of Aiden McCarty, Landyn Clark, Jacob Anderson and Shawn Thomas came in 9th with a time of 1:40.69
Shot Put — Hancock’s Waylon Leach (senior) came in 8th with a distance of 41-01.00, his PR.
Brody Stratton (junior) also threw his PR, with a distance of 39-11.00, coming in 11th place.
Hancock’s Reese Weller (senior) earned the 22nd place with a throw of 34-09.00
Discus — Leach came in 7th as well, with a throw of 122-10, another PR.
Weller earned the 17th place slot with a throw of 104-02.
Brody Stratton secured 23rd place with a throw of 96-01.
High Jump — Hancock’s Logan Trumpower earned fifth place with a jump of 5-09.00.
Long Jump — Trumpower also secured the fifth place in the event, with a jump of 18-11.50, a PR for him.
Junior Shawn Thomas secured 19th place with a jump of 16-10.25 and Jayten McCarty settled in 25th place with a jump of 16-04.25.
Triple Jump — Hancock’s Aiden McCarty earned the 16th slot with a jump of 34-09.25. Jacob Anderson earned the 18th slot with a jump of 33-09.75 and Logan Trumpower grabbed the slot below him with a jump of 33-03.25.
Girls’ Varsity
100 Meter — Hancock runners Amy Davis and Emalee Chewning grabbed the 28th and 29th slots, with times of 15.65 and 15.69 respectively.
Discus — Hancock’s Amy Davis secured the 28th slot with a throw of 62-01.
Long Jump — Hancock’s Emalee Chewning grabbed the 21st place with a jump of 12-05.00, a school record.
Triple Jump — Chewning grabbed the 19th place slot in the event with a jump of 25-03.50.
