John M. Kielek
1923-2024
John M. Kielek, age 101, died on April 27, 2024, at War Memorial Hospital, Extended Care Unit, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
He was born February 13, 1923 in Baltimore, Md. John was a WW II Army Veteran, and fought bravely in the Battle of the Bulge.
John worked as a sheet metal mechanic at Glenn L. Martin Aircraft Company in Middle River, Md. This aircraft plant produced aircraft during World War II and the Cold War for the defense of the United States and our allies. His last fifteen years of work was as the head custodian at St. Elizabeth School in Baltimore, Md.
Everyone who knew him loved and appreciated him.
John loved watching the Baltimore Ravens, and the Baltimore Orioles. He was a beloved sports fan.
In addition to his parents, Laura and Stanislaus Kielek, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife Janet Kielek, seven sisters and four brothers.
He is survived by three children, John D. Kielek and wife Marilyn, Felecia Gonglewski and husband John, and Adele Kielek. His four grandchildren – Carole, Matthew, Samuel and Lauren. His ten great grandchildren – Benjamin, Brendan, Nickolas, Joana, Lukas, Alexis, Abigail, Seth, Lincoln, and Lainey. His four great, great grandchildren – Summer, Chase, Natalie, and Sawyer. In addition, he is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
John was a devout Christian and of the Catholic faith.
Visitation will be Friday, May 3, 2024 from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. with the service at 10:30 a.m. at Connelly Funeral Home of Essex, 300 Mace Avenue, Essex, MD 21221. Interment will be held at Oaklawn Cemetery with Honors at 12 p.m.
