A grand opening was held at 109 W. Main Street in Hancock on Saturday, April 27 to mark the opening of four new businesses.
“We didn’t choose Hancock. Hancock chose us,” declared Rachael Truitt, owner of Country Scents Candles, with husband Sammy Truitt, during a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
“Welcome to the community,” said Delegate Terry Baker, presenting each business with an official citation from the Maryland General Assembly, commemorating the improvement of Main Street in his remarks.
The Reverend Steven L. McCarty, Rector of St. Thomas’ Parish in Hancock delivered a blessing of the new businesses.
Dignitaries and community members enjoyed free hot dogs, popcorn and cupcakes under a red tent set up on the sidewalk next to colorful flags and a big red sign.
In addition to Country Scents Candles, the businesses operating at that location include Game Cave, Timeless Baby Boutique, and Atlantic Off-Road & Performance.
Game Cave features old-fashioned foosball tables, pinball machines and carnival-type games. Prizes were fanciful in the clean and brightly lit game room.
“We just love this town,” said Rebecca Sheeder of Warfordsburg, owner of Timeless Baby Boutique, with daughter Carissa Sheeder. Their boutique, set to open at the end of May, will feature a western and farm theme.
“Time slows down here,” said Rachael Truitt, formerly of Glen Burnie, praising the friendly and supportive community in Hancock.
Her Country Scents Candles are all hand-poured on site, using no dyes and 100% organic soy, which produces less soot, for under $20. Diffusers, oils, wax melts, and warmers are also available.
A wide array of enticing scents, including funnel cake, soft pretzel, and bourbon strawberry vanilla, were on display, filling the air with pleasant aromas. The business also has an online shopping option at their website.
Game Cave will offer free space for birthday parties. Anyone interested in reservations or more information can call 301-678-7777.
