Alton Lee Rinard

1947-2024

Alton Lee Rinard, age 76, of Hancock, Md., died on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at his home.

Born August 18, 1947 in Hancock, Md., he was the son of the late Alton William and Martha Pauline Potter Rinard.

He was faithful to the House of God and was a devoted member of Hancock Assembly of God Church where he sang in the choir and loved his Lord and Savior.

Alton was a graduate of Hancock High School.

He served with the United States Army from January 30, 1968 until his honorable discharge on January 29, 1970 during the Vietnam War.

Alton retired from Rayloc, Inc. and had worked at Fleetwood Industries, both in Hancock.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, walking on the Rail Trail, passing out candy, fellowshipping, playing games with family, talking like Donald Duck, working and tinkering on mowers and watching and attending sport games.

Alton was a hard worker. He loved people and he had nicknames for many. Alton carried the Buddy Barrel for missions and was a proud host at the Potomac River Grill.

Alton is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nancy Carol Thompson Rinard, at home, four children, Melissa K. Rinard of Hancock, Daniel L. Rinard and his wife, Roberta of Somersworth, N.H., William V. Rinard and his wife, Jennifer of Clermont, Fla. and David J. Rinard and his wife Kimberly of Great Cacapon, W.Va., four sisters, Donna Morse and her husband, Roy, Lois Myers, Brenda Douglas and Bonnie Unger and her husband, Rick, seven grandchildren, Victoria and her husband, Ben, Adrienne Ismail, Jordan Rinard and wife, Mickayla, Elizabeth Rinard, Rebecca Rinard, Garrett Rinard and Gabriel Rinard, six great-grandchildren, Hannah, Lucas, Adrian, Micah, Ezra and Amari and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers-in-law, Jerry L. Beatty, Gene A. Myers and David Lee Woodal, one sister-in-law, Patricia Woodal and one nephew, Matthew Wood.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 29, 2024 at Hancock Assembly of God, 431 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, Hancock, Md., with Pastors Chris Basham and Donald Preston officiating. Burial with graveside military honors were in Tonoloway Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Warfordsburg, Pa. The family received friends from 4 p.m.–7 p.m. on Sunday at the church.
