Hancock police dept. to get five new cruisers under grant

by Geoff Fox

Hancock Town Manager Mike Faith has announced the town will be getting five new police cruisers to be outfitted for the town’s police department.

A grant to pay for the cruisers has been approved, but the town hasn’t officially received the money.

A resolution to purchase the vehicles with the grant money was passed during the March town meeting.

The five vehicles will be black 2024 Ford Police Interceptor Utility vehicles and will have all-wheel drive.

The town will be buying the vehicles from New Holland Auto Group in New Holland, Pennsylvania.

According to the sales order sheet, each vehicle would cost $46,985, for a total of $222,980. That cost would be covered by the grant.

Before the new vehicles can be placed in service, they have to be outfitted with lights, radios, decals, and everything else for a police vehicle.

Faith said they should be delivered to the outfitter by Wednesday, April 17, and Friday, April 19.

It should be two to three weeks before the new vehicles see the streets of Hancock.

“The first one takes the longest because they have to figure everything out,” Faith said.

Once the first one is out of the way, the outfitter has a template for what a Hancock Police Department vehicle needs.

The other four vehicles would be ready in another 30 days.

When the first vehicle arrives and is on the road, one of the current police vehicles will be “retired” as the town will look for ways to remove it from their fleet.

Faith said with four current officers and one ready to graduate from the academy, each officer will have their own new vehicle.
