Ellen Mae Pinder
1942-2024
Ellen Mae Pinder, age 81, of Berkeley Springs W.Va., died on Wednesday, April 8, 2024, at the Winchester Medical Center while under the care of Blue Ridge Hospice.
Born on May 3, 1942, in Inglewood, California, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Andrew and Delia Alwilda Denny.
Ellen spent most of her early life in southwestern Colorado in the towns of Durango and Cortez. Many of her childhood memories reflected adventures hiking in the Rockies, camping under the western sky, and a breakfast of wild trout.
She married Edward James Pinder, of Dove Creek, Colo. on August 22, 1959, in Cortez and enjoyed 51 years of marriage. With the exception of three years in England, she mostly lived in Catonsville, Md. where she worked as an office manager for various accounting and law firms. Because of her love of the outdoors, she vacationed on property they bought on the Cacapon River, near Great Cacapon, W.Va. in 1980. After retiring in the 2000’s, she moved permanently to a small cabin built on the property. Here she was an active member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Great Cacapon. She volunteered extensively at the food kitchen, committees, and other church activities. She continued to have a passion for fishing (although she would never worm her own hook), RVing, bowling, and wildlife watching. After the passing of her husband, she moved into Berkeley Springs taking care of her little dogs, first Sugar then Annie, while never missing an Oriole or Ravens game. Ellen’s laughter, generosity, and kindness will be deeply missed by her friends and family.
Ellen is survived by her son, Michael James Pinder, Blacksburg, Va., daughter-in-law, Allison Pinder, Baltimore, Md., grandchildren, Kathryn Ellen Pinder, Great Cacapon, and Jack Thomas Pinder, Baltimore, Md.
Along with her parents and husband, she is preceded by her sister June Atkins and son, Edward Thomas Pinder.
Private services will be held at Great Cacapon Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Ellen Mae Pinder to the Humane Society of Morgan County, 5366 Valley Rd., Berkeley Springs, WV 25411.
