1957-2024

Philip Matthew Hofe, age 66, of Great Cacapon, W.Va., died on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born June 28, 1957 in Martinsburg, W.Va., he was the son of the late Melvin Richard and Norma Louise Miller Hofe.

He was a 1975 class graduate of Berkeley Springs High School and a 1979 class graduate of West Virginia University with a degree in forestry.

Phil worked as a senior customer advocate with JLG Industries for 19 years. Philip was former general manager with Coolfont Resort. He was the Berkeley Springs High School Volleyball Coach from 2004 until 2008. Philip was a member of JrOUAM Council #117 in Berkeley Springs and Great Cacapon Volunteer Fire Company and was a fire warden.

He liked to go fishing, playing basketball and was an avid outdoorsman.

Phil enjoyed and loved traveling to the West Virginia State Parks with his wife, Kelly.

Phil is survived by his wife of 28 years, Kelly Lynne Whetsel Hofe, at home; four children, Abby M. Harvey and her husband, Kevin, Emily R. Emerick and her husband Tyler, Kelsey N. Lucido and her husband, Paul and James L. Perry and his wife, Tina; two sisters, Jocelyn Hofe and her spouse, Sue and Angela Stohl and her husband, David; eight grandchildren, River, Avery, Emmie, Jameson, Joshua, Luka, Kaylene and Hunter.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 8, 2024 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. The family received friends from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Phil’s memory may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 330 Hospice Lane, Kearneysville, WV 25430.
