In 2016, the Town of Hancock and medicinal cannabis producer Harvest entered into a partnership that saw the town have a five percent interest in the company.
Almost three years ago, in May 2021, Trulieve bought out Harvest and has continued the partnership with the Town of Hancock.
Last July, Maryland legislators made possession and use of small amounts of cannabis and cannabis products legal for individuals at least 21-years old.
That means up to 1.5 ounces of cannabis, up to 12 grams concentrated cannabis, cannabis products containing up to 750 mg strength delta-9-THC, and up to two cannabis plants are legal for “personal use” possession.
A spokesperson for Trulieve said the company is “proud to operate a production facility” with the town.
The facility in Hancock currently employs over 100 people who work everyday to cultivate, process, manufacture, and distribute regulated and tested cannabis products for medical patients and adult use customers in Maryland.
“We have several open positions and expected to add employees at the facility in the coming months,” the spokesperson said.
Since adult use sales began last July, Trulieve has expanded production in the Hancock facility and is making more products for their own retail locations and wholesale customers.
With the expansion of the cannabis market to include adult use cannabis, it hasn’t changed the business plan for Trulieve, the spokesperson said.
“We remain focused on selling branded product through our branded retail locations and expanding distribution through wholesale,” they said.
Maryland has a limit of four dispensaries per operator, and right now, Trulieve operates three retail loca tions in Halethorpe, Lutherville-Timonium, and Rockville.
A fourth location could be in Trulieve’s future should they acquire that location.
The spokesperson added there is nothing pending at the moment.
