1935-2024

Dorothy Marie “Dottie” Kucharski, age 88, of Great Cacapon, W.Va., died on Monday, February 26, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family and while under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.

Born June 27, 1935 in Baltimore, Md., she was the daughter of the late Russell W. and Dorothy Marie Herpel Disney.

She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, where she was past president of the Altar Rosary Society and had been the director of religious education.

Dottie enjoyed planting her own garden and enjoyed canning her own fruits and vegetables.

Before moving to the mountains, Dottie and her husband, Frank lived aboard the “Dottie Dee” and loved boating on and around the Chesapeake Bay.

She liked playing cards and board games, especially parcheesi. Dottie enjoyed watching birds at the feeders, working in her rose gardens and riding mules in the mountains. She always had freshly baked cookies and cakes.

Dottie looked forward to seeing the great grandsons bringing her mail after school and she always had candy in a bowl for them.

Dottie married the love of her life, Frank J. Kucharski on December 7, 1952, and they just celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary. She was a loving and fantastic mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Frank R. Kucharski and his wife, Linda, Richard Kucharski and his companion, Vicky Unger and Joyce Kucharski and her wife, Lisa Yarmis, three grandsons, Les and his wife, Gabriella, Russell and his wife, Heather and Joshua and his wife, Shannon, five great-grandsons, one great-granddaughter and five bonus great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two grandsons.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., where a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. by the Knights of Columbus. Services and burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dottie’s memory may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 330 Hospice Lane, Kearneysville, WV 25430.
