1934-2024

Ira “Junior” Marvin Moats, Jr., age 89, of Mercersburg, Pa., passed away Saturday, February 10, 2024, at his residence.

Born Saturday, April 7, 1934, in Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Ira and Mary Younker Moats Sr.

Junior worked at McKinley’s Food Market in Hancock, Md. for over 20 years and worked as a mechanic at Kirk Ford Sales in Hancock.

He loved to hunt and enjoyed farming. He was a loving and kind brother and friend and will be sadly missed by family, friends, and the community he served.

Junior was a dedicated volunteer for the Hancock Fire Company for over sixty years.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by two daughters, Donna Schetrompf and Linda McCusker; one granddaughter, Penny Schetrompf; two sisters, Patsy Barnhart, and Estalene Dyer; and his companion of over 21 years, Margie McCray.

Junior is survived by his son, Randy L Moats of Hancock; daughter, Norma Evans of Hancock; two sisters, Shelby Hovermale of Hancock, and Doris Barker of Berkeley Springs; two brothers, Ricky Moats of McConnellsburg and Kenneth Moats of Chambersburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 12 p.m. with a two-hour visitation prior to the service at Stone Bridge Church of the Brethren, 14904 Orchard Ridge Road, Hancock, Md. 21750. Pastor Harry Strite will officiate. Burial will follow at the Stone Bridge Church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hancock Volunteer Fire Company, 3 Fulton Street, Hancock, MD 21750.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Grove-Rogowski Funeral Home, 141 West Main St., Hancock, MD.
