1950-2024

Stephen Frederick Iden, age 73, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Monday, January 29, 2024 at his daughter’s residence in Great Cacapon, W.Va.

Born February 8, 1950 in Hancock, Md., he was the son of the late Frederick Harold and Helen Elizabeth Stottlemyer Iden.

He attended Hancock public schools. Stephen served with the United States Marines.

He worked as a groundskeeper with the Berkeley Springs State Park.

Stephen enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing Yahtzee and spending time with his family.

Stephen is survived by his children, Stephanie Ann Greathouse, Doreena Ann Iden and Steven Brent Iden, all of Berkeley Springs, Amy Elizabeth Reed of Great Cacapon, Tony Keith Kingery of Denver, Colo., Steven Curtis Iden and Wendy Renee Thomas, both of Hagerstown, Md., three sisters, Christine Weller of Hancock, Teresa “Gitch” Miller of Berkeley Springs and Debbie Daley of Greencastle, Pa., 19 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Debra Ann Bishop Iden, two daughters, Michelle Marie Iden and Julie Marie Iden, three sons, Leon Iden, Scotty Iden and Keith Iden, two sisters, Sharon King and Vivian “Bimmie” Unger and two brothers, Ronald “Jake” Iden and Edward Iden.

The family received friends from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Friday, February 2, 2024 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. Services and burial were private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Stephen’s memory may be directly made to the funeral home to help defray funeral expenses.
