Trees, logs, and other debris floated down the swiftly moving river on Monday morning. The USGS was out on Monday morning getting a reading of the speed of the river’s flow at various points including at the boat ramp and the island. The river, as of Monday morning, had only risen to where the concrete meets the asphalt at the boat ramp. According to the USGS website, the Potomac River at Hancock had hit a high of 16.62 feet at ll:15 a.m. Monday, well below flood stage. According to the NOAA, flood stage for the Potomac River at Hancock is 25 feet with major flooding at 35 feet.
