The Hancock Veterans Memorial Branch Library will host a program by the Maryland State Library Resource Center to learn about the work of the Division of Pictorial Publicity of the Committee for Public Information in World War I.
The program will review posters designed for recruiting, as well as those designed to manage resources on the home front, to encourage gardening, and to involve people in non-military roles.
Participants will find out why these posters were produced, who the artists were, which images have persisted, and why “Liberty” began to take over from “Columbia” as the embodiment of the spirit of the Nation.
This free program will take place on Thursday, January 18 at 6 p.m. All ages are welcome.
